About Us

Our Mission and Ministry

At Church of the Holy Spirit, our ministry to to be a community where people meet Christ and grow in their relationship with God through our worship, service, and fellowship. Our interaction, as a community, in these three areas strengthens the bond we share as seekers and believers and helps us share God's love in ways that helps change the lives of those inside and outside the four walls of the church. We pray that you will join us on our  shared journey.

A Little Bit of Our History

The history of the Church of the Holy Spirit (or CHS as we are commonly referred to) parallels the development of early Nebraska statehood. The Missionary Bishop of the Nebraska Territory, Jackson Kemper, toured the state in the 1850s for promising locations for church sites. His first Episcopal Church in the Nebraska Territory was Holy Trinity Mission, near what is now the city of Bellevue, which flourished until the late 1800s. A legacy of this church is a stained glass window located in Trinity Cathedral in downtown Omaha.

In 1961, the Episcopal Church returned to the Bellevue area with the establishment of the Church of the Holy Spirit Mission. The result of a church plant by St. Martin's of Tours in South Omaha, our first service was held July 2, 1961 in the historic Presbyterian Church in downtown Bellevue. Our present site became a reality in 1966 and our services moved here on Christmas Eve of that year. We transitioned from Mission status to Parish status in 1978 and our school/office wing was added in 1979. For over 60 years, we have gladly served the people of Bellevue and Offutt AFB and we look forward to the opportunities the next 60 years will offer us to do the same.
